EDWARDSVILLE A motorist claims he was injured when another driver caused a rear-end collision on Highway 52 in DuQuoin.
Joseph Barber filed a complaint July 14 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Emily Evans, alleging negligence.
According to his complaint, Barber was driving his 1996 Jeep Cherokee on U.S. Highway 52 near the intersection of Baily Lane in DuQuoin on Nov. 22, 2019. He claims that Evans, who was driving her 2008 Yaris, was approaching the same intersection and rear-ended his vehicle. Barber alleges he suffered injuries to his neck, back and chest as a result of the crash.
Barber alleges Evans was negligent by driving while distracted, speeding and for failing to keep a proper lookout. He also alleges Barber failed to reduce her speed, failed to make a proper maneuver to avoid the collision and failed to warn of the impending crash.

Newcastle Rebels have held off a late comeback from Illawarra Steelers to secure a 26-22 victory in the Under 20s Steel City Challenge.
Newcastle wing Pat Achurch opened the scoring for the match after he was on the receiving end of a beautiful flick pass from his centre Callum Briggs to put the Rebels 4-0 up after 12 minutes.
Some second phase play from Newcastle got them rolling down field and Max Buderus kicked cross field for Sam Smith, who plucked it out of the air and scored in the corner. Buderus successfully converted and the Rebels had an early 10-0.
