CONCORD — A Bridgewater man is the latest Granite Stater caught up in the fallout from last week’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol after FBI agents arrested him Wednesday.

The Boston FBI has made its first arrest of a New England resident suspected of involvement in last week s violence in Washington, D.C. Thomas Gallagher, 61, of Bridgewater, N.H., was arrested by the Boston FBI Wednesday and appeared in federal court in Concord, N.H. Thursday afternoon. He is accused of being part of a crowd that vandalized the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, the day lawmakers were to certify the election results confirming President-elect Joe Biden s victory. During a remote hearing before Magistrate Andrea Johnstone, Gallagher was ordered to stay out of Washington, D.C. until after Biden s inauguration next week.

New Details Emerge About NH Man Charged in Capitol Riot

Rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, interrupting though not stopping the affirmation of Joe Biden as the next president. Gallagher is charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority or knowingly engaging in disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds and violent entry as well as disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. He made his initial court appearance Thursday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Concord, New Hampshire. The judge allowed him to be released as long as he stays out of Washington, D.C. Gallagher left the Cheshire County Jail with no comment to NBC10 Boston Thursday. He is scheduled to attend a detention hearing virtually sometime next week.
