Rich Lowry sure has a funny way of looking at things. In his column (Tribune, Feb. 22) Lowry mourns the presence of a “seven-foot-high razor wire fence erected around the U.S. Capitol.” He calls these security measures “theatrical” and examples of “classic bureaucratic overreaction.” Lowry is disturbed by this nasty sight reminiscent of the Berlin Wall. Such bad form is this “optics of ongoing security overkill.” All this creates a bad impression, he writes. And he wants it all down because this ugly fence “inevitably brings to mind war zones and dictatorships” and finally ending with “blighting forevermore the symbolic center of our democracy.” (The fence was erected by the Trump administration.)
