The rise – the maximum allowed – was approved during a meeting of the Sussex Police and Crime Panel on Friday (January 29).
A report presented to the meeting showed that, since 2018/19, the bill has risen by £61 but is still one of the lowest in England and Wales.
Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne said she would ensure savings were found ‘wherever they can be’ and added: “This isn’t just about saying ‘pay more and we’ll just put our feet up’, this is absolutely about continuing the focus to get the most we can for the money that is paid.”
It follows the creation of tactical enforcement units last year to find the most-wanted criminals and bring them to justice. The new SEU is focussed on the county’s road networks, and also includes expert investigators so high profile gangs and suspects are stopped before they reach our streets.
Sussex Police has launched the new unit to hunt down drugs gangs and violent criminals on our roads Chief Constable Jo Shiner said: “Argus readers and residents in Sussex do want to see us getting tough. “We will be proportionate and ethical of course, but we need to be tough to tackle county lines drug dealers, burglars and those bringing weapons and violence to Sussex.

THE FAMILY of a missing mother believe a woman pictured in the last known image of her may have finally been identified. Georgina Gharsallah, 30, disappeared near the centre of Worthing more than two years ago and has not been seen since. CCTV taken on the day of her disappearance shows, according to her family, Georgina with another woman in Chapel Road at about 4pm. Now, years after the image was recorded, the family says someone has come forward to identify the other woman in the CCTV. Mother Andrea Gharsallah said: “It’s a very, very important new lead. “It’s what we’ve been waiting for all this time, for someone to come forward.
