Of all the staggering statistics to come out of the coronavirus crisis, none is more shocking than the number of deaths. More than 115,000 people have died after contracting Covid in the UK, well over the capacity of Wembley Stadium. Up to February 5, there had been 3,664 coronavirus-related deaths registered in Essex. Every one of these deaths represents a life tragically cut short too soon. Here are just some of the stories of those who have lost their lives in south Essex: Felicity Siyachitema Loving mother mother Felicity Siyachitema, 51, from Southend, was a switchboard operator at University College Hospital in London, died after battling the virus.

A yacht club has paid its own tribute to a police officer who died after contracting Covid-19. Special Constable Toby Speller was a member of the Thorpe Bay Yacht Club and served in Essex Police’s Marine Unit. The force announced SC Speller had died from coronavirus earlier this week. The yacht club has paid its own tribute to SC Speller in a statement posted on its website. Commodore Adrian Bunting said: On behalf of Thorpe Bay Yacht Club and all our members I would like to pay tribute to one of life s true gentleman and fellow sailor of our club.

Published: 7:54 AM January 19, 2021    Special Constable Toby Speller, a volunteer marine officer with Essex Police, has tragically died after having Covid-19. - Credit: Essex Police Marine Unit Tributes have been paid following the tragic death of a volunteer marine officer from Essex Police after he died with coronavirus.  Special Constable Toby Speller, who had volunteered for the force for more than 16 years, sadly died with Covid-19 on Saturday, January 17. We are devastated to say we lost one of our Marine Officers to Covid 19 on Saturday. Rest well Toby, we will take it from here.
