Stratford council has approved a request to host the 2022 Canadian Junior Curling Championships at the Stratford Rotary Complex in partnership with the Stratford Country Club.
After discussing the country club’s request to waive ice-rental fees at the Stratford Rotary Complex between March 24 and April 1 – with a buffer of a few days for setup and takedown – council voted Monday to support that ask if the city is awarded the event.

Stratford residents can expect the price of garbage-bag tags to increase from $3.50 to $3.60 as of Jan. 1, 2021.
At Monday’s city council meeting, councillors approved a 2021 schedule for city fees and charges, which included the 10-cent bump to the cost of bag tags.

“I am totally against raising (the price of) the garbage tag – ever again, basically – in the city,” Coun. Bonnie Henderson said when it came time for council to vote on the city’s 2021 fees and charges bylaw. “Three-fifty is more than enough. Any additional times that we need more money in that department should come out of the tax rate. We should just add it on like we did with the Green Bin (organic-waste-collection program).”
