Maidstone Max is being touted as a regional attraction for Upper Hutt following its rebuild, that includes accessible features so it can be enjoyed by wheelchair users. The plan involved partial subdivision of the reserve, which would create six small lots for residential development, opposite a new playground. The playground would primarily be completed by the community, but the council would help with footpaths and safety matting. Deputy mayor Jo Mason said the project was still in its early stages, but at the very least, the council would not go ahead with disposing of the land. She said there were no final designs yet, but the goal was for it to be a playground for everyone, where people with disabilities could navigate the park safely alongside able-bodied people.
