On April 30, representatives with Burger King notified the city of Joliet of plans to demolish the existing fast-food restaurant. Burger King wants to build a new fast-food restaurant on the same property, at the corner of Cass and Collins Street, not far from the Joliet Central High School campus.

Xavier Mendoza, a 20-year-old Joliet resident, died instantly when someone walked right up and shot him in the head as he sat in the car outside the building. Stohr, an apparent eyewitness, was subsequently shot in the back by the same person who wanted Mendoza dead.
