NEW PHILADELAPHIA A jury has acquitted a 35-year-old city man of charges that he supplied drugs that resulted in a fatal overdose.
The jury found John A. Arnder not guilty of two counts of corrupting another with drugs on Wednesday afternoon. They convicted him of two counts of aggravated drug trafficking.
Prosecution and defense attorneys made their closing arguments Wednesday.
Arnder had been accused of supplying Johnathan D. Brinkman with the synthetic opioids fentanyl and carfentanil on June 20, 2019. Brinkman, 23, of New Philadelphia, died the same day.
The victim s father found him unconscious in a bedroom at their home in the 300 block of Fourth Street NW, according to New Philadelphia Police Detective Capt. Shawn Nelson, who testified Wednesday. Brinkman was taken to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, where he was pronounced dead.
