An Alexandria man was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison at hard labor for the December 2016 fatal stabbing of his brother.
Daniel Maverick Mikkelson Sr., 59, was arrested by the Alexandria Police Department on Dec. 14, 2016, after the body of his brother was found in an Eastwood Boulevard home.
James Mikkelson had been stabbed multiple times. Officials believe he died several days prior.
Daniel Mikkelson and Natarsha Elizabeth Meredith both were arrested on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. However, Meredith died in July 2019 before she could be prosecuted.
Mikkelson was declared unable to assist with his own defense by a sanity commission in March 2018, but was declared capable in December 2020.
