34% of parents would send kids back to school
About 34% of public school parents have said they would send their kids back to in-person classroom instruction if the Guam Department of Education reopens in January, according to a Dec. 11 Guam Education Board meeting.
That leaves 66% of parents declining to resume face-to-face lessons during the pandemic. Before the school year started, about 40% of students were signed up for on-campus instruction, but the governor prohibited face-to-face instruction at all schools on island.
“I didn’t anticipate our parents would be overly eager to return because there’s still a lot of uncertainty and anxiety in the air,” education Superintendent Jon Fernandez said. He added that at the time the surveys were distributed, Guam’s daily COVID-19 cases were higher than the recent low reports.
