Sheriff s Office investigates suspected murder, attempted suicide in Medford
The Jackson County Sheriff s Office believes that an elderly man shot his ailing wife before trying to kill himself. He was found injured, but alive.

MEDFORD, Ore. The Jackson County Sheriff s Office responded on Monday to an apparent attempt at murder-suicide by an elderly man in southwest Medford.
The agency said that deputies responded on Monday to a house in the 2800-block of Judy Way for two gunshot victims. The deputies arrived to find a woman dead from a shotgun wound. She was later identified as 87-year-old Joanne Marcella Wheeler.

City Council back to work in the new year
January 13, 2021BERLIN At last week s City Council meeting in Berlin, the Mayor opened a Public Hearing for Resolution 2021-01, re-appropriating funds for a PW-Loader Lease Account. There were no public comments.
The Disbursement Summary from Dec. 19-30 came to a total of $1,129,281.82. That amount was approved by all Councilors.
A Resolution that would re-appropriate $33,403.07 from fiscal year 2021, for a CI-PW Garbage Packer ($13,762.60); FY21 CI-PW Salt Truck ($8,640.45); FY21 CI- PW Loader Mounted Snow Blower ($11,000.00) to FY21 CI-PW Loader Operation Lease was discussed.
The Resolution states, Whereas, the City is in need of replacing two of its loaders which are primary equipment for snow removal; and Whereas, favorable bid pricing resulted in a combined surplus of $33,403.07 in the FY20 capital accounts for a garbage packer, salt truck and loader mounted snow blower, and Whereas, by combining the $33,403.07 with $63,786.09

GORHAM â The sale of Gorham Paper and Tissue was approved in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware Friday and the closing is expected to take place by the end of the year.
U.S. Bankruptcy Court Justice Karen Owens ruled she found no reason for delay in implementing the order, which calls for the sale of substantially all of the assets of GPT and its subsidiary, White Mountain Tissue.
GPT filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Nov. 4, at the same time announcing it had agreed to sell its assets to an affiliate of Behrens Investment Group of New York. The sale document lists the purchaser as Gorham Acquisition LLC., but local officials report Central National-Gottesman Inc., will be the new owner.
