NEW YORK (AP) â ABC named Kim Godwin as its news division president on Wednesday, making her the first Black woman to be the top news executive at a broadcast network. Godwin has been second-in-command at CBS News, which learned Wednesday that its own division president, Susan Zirinsky, is stepping down after two years on the job. Godwin has worked at CBS News since 2007, after running local broadcast news operations in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Cleveland. She replaces James Goldston, who announced in January that he was leaving. âThroughout Kim s career in global news organizations and local newsrooms, she has distinguished herself as a fierce advocate for excellence, collaboration, inclusion and the vital role of accurate and transparent news reporting,â said her new boss, Disney general entertainment content chairman Peter Rice.

ABC News names Godwin as president By Helen Coster Reuters (Reuters) -CBS News executive Kimberly Godwin has been named president of Walt Disney Co s ABC News, the media company said on Wednesday, becoming the first Black woman to lead the news division of a major broadcast television network. Godwin will join ABC News in early May, replacing James Goldston. In July, ABC News fired senior executive Barbara Fedida after an independent investigation alleged she had made racially insensitive comments and used inappropriate language, according to a company email. Fedida, the network’s former senior vice president for talent, editorial strategy and business affairs, denied the allegations when they surfaced in media reports in June, describing them as “incredibly misleading.”
