Councillors eye up the Christchurch mayoralty

One can only speculate if she will go for a fourth term. This could be signalling a possible mood for change among the masses, bearing in mind only 41 per cent of those eligible actually bothered to vote in 2019. Joseph Johnson/Stuff There are plenty of councillors eyeing up the $195,000-a-year role. Deputy mayor and third-term councillor Andrew Turner, fourth-term councillor James Gough and first-timer Phil Mauger all say they are seriously considering the move. Second-term councillors Mike Davidson and Sara Templeton have not ruled out a run for the mayoralty. Turner has made no secret of his willingness to lead the city, but in previous years he has said he would never run against Dalziel.

Disc golf injury that could have cost woman her eye 'shouldn't have happened'

Club president Paul Deacon said it was possibly the busiest disc golf course in Australia and New Zealand, but the accident “shouldn’t have happened”. The first rule of the disc golf code was to never throw a disc if people were on the fairway, or into a blind area. The sport sees players score points by throwing a frisbee-like disc towards a target. CHRIS SKELTON/Stuff Naomi Cooke says she does not want the sport banned, but wants better safety precautions in place to make the park safe for everyone. Jellie Park is among six courses in Christchurch and is the oldest, set up in March 2015. Out of 3500 players in Christchurch the park has about 2000 and often sees 400 to 500 players on a weekend day.
