It has been ‘lights, camera, action’ for the residents of St Andrews this week as filming for a major new TV crime drama starts in the historic Fife town. Various specially selected locations will provide the backdrop for a new STV series based on Scottish crime writer Val McDermid’s best-selling Karen Pirie novels. The Kirkcaldy-born author will see the latest of her characters come to life as a week of filming started on Monday for the new series commissioned by STV’s head of drama, Polly Hill.

Sign Up Major structural repairs to St Andrews Town Hall could take more than a year to complete. The town centre building has been closed since cracks were found in the ceiling more than a year ago. Specialist investigations found dry and wet rot in the window lintels. St Andrews Town Hall is well used by various community groups and for events including weddings and festivals. Funding has now been secured for the repairs, including a £210,000 contribution from the Common Good Fund agreed by councillors this week.
