WORKINGTON Town Council appointed a new mayor on Wednesday evening. Councillor Herbert Briggs was sworn in as the Mayor for the upcoming year at a ceremony in the Moorclose Theatre. Councillor Briggs used his speech to thank his wife and family for all the support they had shown him over the years, as well as outgoing mayor Janet King for her work whilst in office. He also said he looked forward to what he hopes will be a great year in office. After the ceremony, he said: “It’s an honour to be the mayor of my own town. I’m 56 years old and I’ve lived in Workington 56 years.
