A new mayor of Workington was appointed at the Workington Town Council annual general meeting. On Wednesday evening Councillor Herbert Briggs, of the Harrington Ward was elected to serve as the Mayor of Workington for the upcoming year. The councillor takes over from Mayor Janet King, who has served in the role for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. The mayor s chosen charities while serving over the last two years have been Young Carers and Young Cumbria. Councillor Will Wilkinson, of St Michael’s ward will also take up the position of deputy mayor in the next year, taking the role of Councillor David King, who sadly past away during his term as Deputy.

WORKINGTON Town Council have created an all-purpose pitch aimed at giving local children and teenagers a space to play. The new pitch is located behind St.Gregory s school in Moorclose and was opened yesterday as a place for local children to go and play football, tennis and other sports. It was an idea of Moorclose Independent Group Councillor Stephen Stoddart came up with the idea of the pitch after noticing a lack of facilities for young people in his ward,. He said: The pitch is here to hopefully get kids out of their bedrooms, get them outside doing exercise, get them active and meeting new friends and allowing them to do things they want to do.
According to the site, Marny will play a character called Rachel Young, who looks to be caught up in an upcoming explosive storyline that also involves fan favourites Jasmine (Sam Frost), Marilyn (Emily Symons), Ryder (Lukas Radovich) and Dean (Patrick O’Connor).

Yarn bombers attack Workington park
Workington’s Vulcan Park has been transformed with a bright and colourful yarn bomb display.
Yarn bombing is a creative way to decorate outdoor spaces and involves attaching knitted displays to trees, benches, and railings.

The displays will be in place until Sunday to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.
Workington Town Council organised the activity and asked local residents to donate knitted squares and textile pieces that have been incorporated into the displays.
Larger displays were set up by Together We CIC, Workington and Derwent Inner Wheel, Workington Community Nurses and ICC, the Knitting Ninjas, Christ Central Church, Age UK, local artist Ursula Troche, and volunteers Jody Ferguson and Judith Ferguson.
