EL CENTRO â Imperial County Supervisor Jesus Eduardo Escobar wants to know how the more contagious COVID-19 variant will impact the already strapped hospitals.

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - As neighboring counties like Los Angeles and San Diego receive their first shipments of vaccines, Imperial County is still awaiting its allocation.
The Imperial County Public Health Department says 975 doses of Pfizer vaccines are expected to arrive this week. The exact date and time is still unknown.
However, the health department said they are ready to receive them when they arrive. The first batch of vaccines will go to healthcare workers that are
EL CENTRO â The county is expected to receive 2,175 doses of COVID-19 vaccine before monthâs end.
That announcement was made Thursday during a joint press conference involving county officials and the CEOs of both El Centro Regional Medical Center and Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District.
County Health Officer Dr. Stephen Munday said the county expects to receive 975 doses from Pfizer to be distributed in less than a week if the Federal Drug and Administration as expected signs off on it.
Public Health Director Janette Angulo said the county would also receive 1,200 doses of the Moderna vaccine by the end of the month once approved.
