UPDATE: Jackson County has a new Commission Chairman.
According to the Governor’s Office, retired Major General Willie Nance, Jr. was selected as Jackson County Commission Chairman on Monday, May 3.

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WAFF) - The search is on for a new Jackson County commission chairman.
Vice-chairman Jason Venable said about a dozen people applied for the position. But it’s important to note, Governor Kay Ivey will make the final decision regarding the appointment.
Venable said not having a chairman has impacted the commission’s efficiency and ability to quickly handle business.
As for the selection process, Venable said he is excited the process is almost complete and is looking forward to working with the governor’s pick.

The Waxahachie Independent School District board of trustees considered for the first time budgeting priorities for the 2021-2022 school year with an eye on budgets farther into the future during its regular monthly meeting on Monday night.
Superintendent Dr. Bonny Cain said the school district has a large number of worthy areas, but budget realities will force the board to prioritize items. For example, a desire for smaller class sizes takes money from something else, Cain said.
Cain presented a list of budget items for the board to prioritize and asked the board to give feedback.

SCOTTSBORO Ala. (WAFF) - Federal funding could help Jackson County provide a boost for local businesses and other organizations impacted by the pandemic.
Many people have been impacted by the pandemic, and some businesses have had to close.
The Jackson County Commission is eligible to receive $500,000 in funding through the Alabama Department of Economic Affairs.
Sara James announced the news at Monday’s commission meeting. She is is the Economic Development & Planning Director for Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments.
