Winchester to receive $517K for road repairs

Rep. Michael Day and Sens. Jason Lewis and Pat Jehlen worked together to help pass legislation that will provide the town of Winchester with $517,246 to help fund local transportation infrastructure upgrades.
Signed into law by Gov. Charlie Baker on July 16, the bill, An Act financing improvements to municipal roads and bridges, authorizes $200 million for municipal roads and bridges through the Chapter 90 program and $150 million to support statewide projects to address congestion, support electric vehicle infrastructure, and improve public transit.
“Leaders at the state and local level continue to work together to ensure that our public infrastructure and transportation network are safe, reliable and useful,” Lewis said. “As we work towards a strong and equitable post-pandemic economic recovery, investment into our transportation infrastructure will produce significant benefits

BEDFORD Lawrence County has received its first disbursement of the American Rescue Plan funding, to the tune of more than $4.4 million, commissioners said during Tuesday morning s meeting.
The money will be held, while the county receives guidance from the Baker Tilly firm on how they can legally use the funds, given the heavy restrictions placed on them.
Other business discussed included Jason Lewis, chief of the Marshall Township Volunteer Fire Department, receiving approval from commissioners to apply for a public facilities grant that would be used for a new Marshall Township fire station. Lewis said the department has outgrown its current facility.
