Bentley Companies named master developer for Tremont Nail

Images courtesy: Bentley Companies After minimal additional discussion during the board’s April 27 meeting, the Board of Selectmen voted to approve awarding Bentley Companies the title of master developer for the Tremont Nail Factory property. Bentley Companies, a Rhode Island-based operation, presented its vision for the Tremont site to the Wareham Redevelopment Authority and to the Board of Selectmen earlier this year. In mid-March, the Redevelopment Authority recommended that the selectmen choose Bentley Companies as master developer for the site.  Bentley Companies’ plan envisions the site with office space, retail establishments and a brewery or restaurant of some sort. The developer’s vision also includes a waterfront community park complete with a pier, boardwalk and kayak rentals.

Bentley Companies said it sees the site as one with the potential for office space, retail establishments and a brewery or restaurant of some sort. The developer’s vision also includes a waterfront community park complete with a pier, boardwalk and kayak rentals. The proposal is one step toward the town’s goal of redeveloping the Tremont Nail property, which was originally built in the 19th century. Steel cut nails were manufactured on site in the “steel building” as recently as 2006. EAST HARTFORD — The town’s library recently acquired the accounting of the estate of one of the “first families” of early state history dating back to 1825. The accounting of the estate of Stephen Pitkin of East Hartford includes payments to Ozias Roberts, the town tax collector at the time. Roberts’ daughter, Esther Raymond, and her husband, Albert C. Raymond, donated the land and money to the town to create the library. “This document adds to our rich trove of Pitkin family-related materials that the library possesses,” Sarah Kline Morgan, the town’s library director, said today. “This document also adds to our rich collection of East Hartford local history under the management of Jason Pannone, the cultural assets manager and head of reference.
