The use of a spike belt to slow down an erratic driver would not have been practical, a police officer on Tuesday told an inquiry into the motorist’s fatal shooting.
Sgt. J.F. Dery said employing a spike belt can be extremely dangerous, citing the 1993 death of Const. Richard Sonnenberg as an example, and officers would not have had an opportunity to use one to stop Jason Gary Roy.
