Spring Hill will have some new players on its board of mayor and aldermen come April.
Five of the boardâs nine offices are up for election on April 8, including the mayorâs, but only one alderman is running for re-election, and not without competition.
The board, which approves an annual city budget and creates city policies, is made up of the Spring Hill mayor and eight ward aldermen â two per ward â who have staggered four-year terms.
Mayor Rick Graham, who was elected to his position in 2013 after serving for six years as an alderman, is among the four exiting their offices. Ward 1 Alderman Amy Wurth and Ward 2 Alderman Jeff Graves are also giving up their seats, while Ward 4 Alderman Vincent Fuqua is leaving his spot to run for mayor. Ward 3 Alderman Kevin Gavigan is running for re-election against two opponents.

Vaccine shortage causes delay at UNC Southeastern By Cameron Crowe | January 27, 2021 at 8:24 PM EST - Updated February 2 at 11:55 AM
LUMBERTON, N.C. (WMBF) - After a recent surge in COVID-19 vaccinations in North Carolina, but now the process is moving slower.
“Well, the state had held a statewide conference Monday and we learned that the rate of vaccines would slow down coming to healthcare entities potentially,” said Jason Cox, COO of UNC Health Southeastern.
UNC Health Southeastern had ramped up its capacity to provide 3,000 vaccinations in a week. This week, the hospital didn’t receive any first dose vaccine allocations.
UNC Health Southeastern announced on Tuesday that first-dose appointments set for Thursday, along with vaccine clinic days at its Lumberton and Pembroke vaccine clinics, have been postponed.

WASHINGTON, January 26, 2021 As the pandemic has continued to spread globally, studies indicate the COVID-19 virus may be contained in aerosols that can be generated and spread through breathing, coughing, sneezing, or talking by infected individuals. Researchers are increasingly focused on developing tools and methods to assist in decontaminating surfaces and spaces.
While scientists have previously explored the use of electromagnetic energy to deactivate flu virus in bulk fluids, less work has been done to understand the role of nonionizing radiation, such as microwaves, in reducing the infectivity of viral pathogens in aerosols. The tools required to both safely contain contaminated aerosol streams and expose these aerosols to controlled, well-characterized microwave doses have not been readily available.

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WNCN) â Officials at a Lumberton hospital are asking the public to find alternative places for treatment as all staffed beds at the facility are occupied.
UNC Health Southeastern administrators recommend the public to see their âfamily physician or use local clinics for all health conditions not requiring emergency care.â
âWe are urging our community to evaluate their health care needs to determine the most appropriate place from which to seek care at this time,â said Jason Cox, UNC Health Southeastern vice president and chief operating officer. âPersons with true emergencies, such as trauma or chest pain, should not hesitate to come in for emergency care.â
