Cowboys split DH with UNO; lead series 2-1

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese opened up doubleheader Saturday with an 8-3 win over New Orleans before UNO took the nightcap 8-4 as the two teams split the Southland Conference DH.
McNeese (21-22, 14-12) leads the series 2-1 over the Privateers (24-19, 19-12) and will go for the series win in Sunday’s finale beginning at 1 p.m.

Will Dion improved his record to 5-4 on the season after he held the UNO bats in check for most of the game to lead the Cowboys to the 8-3 win.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - McNeese dropped a non-conference doubleheader here Saturday against UT Arlington, falling 8-1 and 6-5 in 10 innings.
With the losses, the Cowboys fall to 18-21 overall. They’ll attempt to snap a seven-game losing streak in the series finale on Sunday which carries a 1 p.m. first pitch. UTA improved to 19-20.
McNeese dropped the first game by an 8-1 score after collecting just five hits in the contest while the Mavericks were able to jump on Cowboy ace Will Dion early for five runs in 3 2/3 innings.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns overcame giving up three unearned runs to rally in a 4-3 victory over McNeese on Wednesday.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Ragin’ Cajuns.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
McNeese scored all three of its runs in the top of the third inning. Ben David led off by reaching base on an error. Payton Harden then got a single off of Austin Perrin and Julian Gonzales reached on a fielder’s choice.
Two batters later, Nate Fisbeck drove in David on a fielder’s choice.

LAFAYETTE – UL Lafayette scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and retired 12 of the final 13 McNeese batters to rally for a 4-3 win over the Cowboys on Wednesday night in the final mid-week game of the season for McNeese.
The loss dropped the Cowboys to 18-19 overall and will next be in action this weekend when they host UT Arlington in a three-game series beginning Friday. The Cajuns improved to 21-15.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – McNeese got off to a slow start offensively in both Southland Conference baseball games against Sam Houston on Sunday and the result was a sweep at the hands of the Bearkats for the second straight day as the Cowboys dropped all four games on the weekend.
The 5-4, 6-4 losses dropped the Cowboys to 18-18 overall and 12-11 in league play while Sam Houston improved to 19-16 and 15-9 in the conference.
