Valletta FC have reached a verbal agreement to extend the contract of first-team coach Jose Antonio Cardoso Mendes, the Times of Malta can confirm.
Cardoso Mendes, popularly known as Toze, joined the Citizens last December when he took over the helm of the team following the resignation of Jesmond Zerafa.
The Portuguese coach found the going tough in the first few months in charge as a congested fixtures schedule and a long injury list left him with a depleted squad for much of the season with the team struggling to any form of consistency.

Jesmond Zerafa has returned to club football in Malta when he agreed to join Premier League side Gudja United where he will fill the role of technical director.
Zerafa started the season with Valletta FC where took the reins of the first team following the sudden departure of Giovanni Tedesco in the summer.

Gudja United will strengthen their squad with the signings of defender Thomas Veronese and forward Elton Da Silva, the Times of Malta can reveal.
Both players have been training with the club for some time with coach Jesmond Zerafa opting to offer contracts to the former Premier League players.
In fact, both Veronese and Da Silva are familiar faces to the Maltese top-flight.

Valletta FC are in advanced talks to appoint António José Cardoso Mendes as their new first-team coach, the Times of Malta can reveal.
Reports earlier on Thursday, revealed that the Citizens were in talks with a 41-year-old Portuguese coach.
Although club officials failed to provide the identity of the new coach, the Times of Malta can confirm that the favourite for the job is Cardoso Mendes.
Valletta are looking to install a new first-team coach following the departure of Jesmond Zerafa and during the past few weeks, the club have made a shortlist of possible candidates for the job.
