The Holmes County Library recently released its events calendar for May.
Star Wars Day will be celebrated May 4 for children ages 2-12. A Yoda light-up craft kit and “Star Wars” related items will be available while supplies last.
The documentary “Laura Ingalls Wilder: Prairie to Page” will be presented in conjunction with WOUB PBS at 7 p.m. May 4 via Zoom. A panel discussion with Miranda Green-Barteet and Lori Pringle will take place after. Registration is required.
Shelley Shepard Gray will discuss her new book “An Amish Surprise” at 6:30 p.m. May 18. Registration is required.
Cranbrook Public Library
The Cranbrook Public Library is now open with extended hours (with some restrictions and reduced services.) We encourage patrons to limit their visits to 60 minutes. We also have a maximum number of patrons allowed in the building at one time, so you may be asked to wait.
Please wear a mask during your visit. Masks are mandatory now (and must be worn in accordance with provincial guidelines for your entire visit).
Library hours for April are:
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, and Friday
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday
12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The signs of spring are certainly upon us and we still await some symbolism of normalcy in our lives as more of our friends, family, and neighbors are vaccinated against COVID-19.
While we are waiting for these restrictions to end, or at least adjust, let me remind you not only that great works of literature have been written during plague years in the past, but that books have also been written about those experiences.Â
Giovanni Boccaccio wrote his most famous work âThe Decameronâ after the epidemic of 1348, available through Overdrive. The book consists of 100 stories, some bawdy, others pointing to a moral, told in a country villa outside the city of Florence by ten young noble men and women seeking to escape the plague.Â
