The backers of the game-changing Augustine Hill urban regeneration project to be built on lands at the rear of Ceannt Station have welcomed the news delivered this week that Galway City Council planners have approved the project, albeit with 53 conditions, most of which are standard.

The Augustine Hill scheme is led by Galway developer Gerry Barrett and is being financed by Summix Capital. Augustine Hill is a €320 million mixed use development with substantial residential, retail and leisure components. It had set out to deliver 378 residential units, a new city-centre pedestrian shopping precinct, four new public squares, 11 new streets and a number of public performance spaces. The plan also provides for a six screen multiplex cinema and parking for 620 cars.

Edward Capital secures approval for landmark Galway city development Augustine Hill to feature 21-storey residential tower, hotel, restaurants, retail and food market Wed, May 26, 2021, 06:00   Developer Gerry Barrett’s Edward Capital has secured the green light from Galway City Council for the delivery of one of Ireland’s largest and most ambitious urban regeneration schemes. Located on an eight-acre site adjacent to Ceannt Station, Augustine Hill, as it will be known, will include a mix of 229 apartments, a 130-bed hotel, a six-screen cinema, restaurants, retail and a craft food market distributed across 11 new and fully-pedestrianised streets and four large public spaces. The residential element of the scheme will be housed in seven blocks with a 21-storey tower as its centrepiece.
