McConalogue welcomes positive start to TB Finance Group

March 4, 2021 4:56 pm Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Charlie McConalogue has welcomed what he called the “positive start” to the Finance Working Group that was recently set up under the TB Stakeholder Forum. The group, which is chaired by Gerry Kiely, held its first meeting today (Thursday, March 4). “The Bovine TB Eradication Programme is our largest animal health programme and is subject to substantial financial support from farmers and taxpayers,” the minister noted. In recognition of this, the terms of reference for the Finance Working Group tasks them with a heavy workload, particularly the need to ensure that the TB Programme is sustainably and appropriately funded.

Dysart Cemetery on the Castleisland to Farranfore Road doesn t get a lot of attention these days in terms of funerals or ceremonies of any kind. On the most recent St. Stephen s Day, however, a ceremony of great historical and local significance was held there. A Covid-19 restricted gathering held a ceremony to commemorate the death and burial in 1920 of Irish Volunteer, patriot and Knocknagoshel native Captain James Hickey who was tortured and murdered by British forces in Tipperary Millitary Barracks on the Sunday of St. Stephen s Day 1920. The Kerryman of January 8-1921 carried the following report of the funeral which occurred on Friday, December 31st. 1920.
