Prosecutors and police shared details on a sweeping gang conspiracy indictment unveiled on Thursday (May 6), leading to 18 members of a Brooklyn gang being charged.
Gothamist reports that 18 young men allegedly involved in a string of shootings, including a drive-by that left 1-year-old Davell Gardner dead at a cookout last summer, were charged. According to the NYPD, the takedown focused on the Hoolie street gang, comprised of fewer than 100 men whose territory is around Roosevelt Houses in Bed-Stuy. Among the 18 arrested was Dashawn Austin, accused of firing the fatal bullet that killed Gardner.

A shooting in Memphis has left two people dead, including a young rapper on the rise according to accounts from loved ones. Mendenhall Mendenhall and one other person were shot and killed in front of a local Valero location, and a 20-year-old suspect has been arrested.
Local outlet WREG reports that Mendenhall Mendenhall, real name Donterrius Johnson, was apparently the victim of being at the wrong place and the wrong time. Johnson was exiting the store when the other slain individual, an unnamed juvenile, was reportedly driving a stolen Chevy Camero that was owned by suspect Noah Jones, who opened fire and struck Johnson and the juvenile.

VIRGINIA JBS in Beardstown has donated more than 900 packages of meat to Cass County Food Pantry ahead of the holidays.
The donation from the meat processor includes different types of pork, pantry director Joanne Anderson said.
“This is probably one of the biggest” donations the pantry has received, she said.
Whenever the food pantry is in a bind, it tends to turn to JBS, which always comes through to help the pantry in some way, she said.
But this time was different.
