Claudel, however, met a tragic fate. They parted ways because of Rodin’s refusal to leave his long-time partner, Rose Beuret, and Claudel descended into madness. In 1913 she was committed to an asylum, where she remained until her death in 1943.
‘It is terrible to be so abandoned,’ she wrote in 1915. ‘I can’t help but succumb to the grief that overwhelms me.’ After her death, Claudel and her work slipped into relative obscurity, only emerging from her lover’s shadow in the late 20th century.
Ancient teeth that were discovered in La Cotte de St Brelade in Jersey appeared to have belonged to a Neanderthal/
Homo sapien hybrid. While the 13 teeth were unearthed over a century ago in 1910 and 1911, they were only recently analyzed in detail.
The teeth (all thought to have belonged to one individual) were initially thought to have belonged to a Neanderthal. The teeth were initially put on display at the Jersey Museum and Art Gallery but were transported to the National History Museum so experts could perform further studies on them.
The new studies were conducted by seven different institutions – including the National History Museum, UCL Institute of Archaeology, and the University of Kent – and they found something very interesting. The teeth actually belonged to two different individuals who had distinct characteristics of both Neanderthals and modern humans.

The building is one of the earliest purpose-built hospitals in the British Isles and its restoration has been planned since the early 1980s, when the States first approved the project. However, a lack of funding had prevented progress since then.
Last year the restoration appeared to have stalled when funding allocated in the 2019 Government Plan disappeared from the 2020 version without comment.
