JS broaches public safety building | News, Sports, Jobs

MALLORIE McILWAIN mmcilwain@sungazette.com JERSEY SHORE Jersey Shore Borough is in discussions with Citizen’s Hose Company and the Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police in regards to a “public safety building” that will include all three entities in the same building, after a 7-1 vote to continue discussions on the purchase of such a building. Janet Barnhart voted no. The regional police force as well as the fire company have been looking into moving into other buildings and discussed a collaboration with the borough, as well as the highway department. The three groups are still in the early stages of this process and will know more as time evolves.

Wasson eyes Lyco district judge position | News, Sports, Jobs

Katelyn Wasson JERSEY SHORE Local business owner Katelyn Wasson has announced her intention to seek election to Magisterial District Judge in District 29-3-01. The position, which covers Jersey Shore Borough and most of western Lycoming County, is currently held by District Judge Jerry Lepley, who is retiring. Wasson, a registered Republican, will cross-file. A successful businesswoman, Wasson is General Manager for Wasson Auto Sales, and oversees her family’s residential real estate business. She also owns and operates KW Rentals, Clover Crown Boutique, an online retail business, and serves as a Finance Manager with Easy Loans, Inc. Wasson is a graduate of Lycoming College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Biology, and is also a graduate of Lock Haven University where she earned a degree in Criminal Justice. While at Lycoming College, she interned at SCI Muncy, a state correctional institution for adult female offenders.

JERSEY SHORE Property taxes in the Jersey Shore Borough will not increase in 2021. Borough Council this week unanimously approved a 2021 budget that keeps the tax rate the same and balances expenses and income at $1,836,380. Moreover, council authorized the police commission to continue investigating further regionalization services of the Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police Force. Meeting by Zoom, Cody Hoover, borough manager, said the general purpose tax rate has not changed from 8.966 mills and disclosed that if a borough resident has a property assessed at $100,000, he or she pays $896.60 in property taxes. Also with council’s approval, Hoover was granted a pay raise from $55,000 to $65,000, an 18 percent increase.

mmcilwain@sungazette.com JERSEY SHORE The Jersey Shore Borough Council unanimously approved the 2021 budget, which includes no tax increase and is balanced in expenditures and revenue at $1,836,380.58, and authorized the police commission to continue investigating regionalization via Zoom earlier this week. Cody Hoover, borough manager, said that the general purpose tax rate has not changed from 8.966 mills, noting that if a borough resident has a property assessed at $100,000 they would pay $896.60 in property taxes. In this budget, the borough increased the amount they give to the public library from $7,000 to $7,500 and increased the borough manager salary from $55,000 to $60,000. Hoover also said that there are no plans for large projects in 2021.
