Kilkenny motorist tried to avoid gardaí - fined

Fines totalling €1,000 have been imposed on a motorist who ‘tried to avoid gardaí’.
Gerard O’Brien, Listerlin, Mullinavat, was charged with driving without reasonable consideration. He was also charged with driving without a valid NCT and without tax.
Kilkenny District Court heard that on February 25, 2020, gardaí were conducting a checkpoint at Mullinavat. They saw a car being driven erratically and followed it.
The car drove down a narrow lane trying to avoid the gardaí.
Weather conditions were wet and foggy at the time.
Gardaí followed the car onto the motorway and it was not safe to stop the car for a while, the court heard. There were passengers in the vehicle.

Kilkenny Court hears situation misinterpreted because of alcoholic haze

A Kilkenny man who misinterpreted a situation ‘due to an alcoholic haze’ and broke a pub window has been convicted of causing criminal damage, at the local district court.
Richard McDonagh, 21 Dominic Street, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the charge, following an incident at The Dylan pub on John Street.
On September 23, 2020, gardaí received a report that Mr McDonagh had punched a window at the pub, causing €1,000 worth of damage. He was clearly identified on CCTV.
Judge Geraldine Carthy heard Mr McDonagh had 73 previous convictions.
Solicitor Chris Hogan said a lot of his client’s previous convictions were ‘historic,’ although the judge pointed out there was ‘not that much of a gap’ since his most recent convictions.

A Kilkenny mother who attempted to pass heroin, cannabis and tablets to her in-custody son in the precinct of the local district court has been charged with drug offences.
Ellen McDonagh, 14 Lord Edward Street, Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to three charges of having drugs for sale or supply and three charges of having illegal possession of drugs.
Evidence was heard that on June 15, 2020, while attending Kilkenny District Court, gardaí heard a commotion outside the courtroom. They went to assist prison officers and gardaí retrieved several packages of illegal drugs. They arrested Ms McDonagh.
