The Chargers jumped out to an early 18-point lead before the Flames used a 15-4 run over the last 4:32 of the half to cut the deficit to seven at the intermission, 35-28. The second half saw a few runs by Lee as GSC East Player of the Year, Quay Kennedy drilled a 3-pointer with 14:59 left to make it a five-point game.  That s the closest the Flames would get however as UAH would never relinquish the lead as it advances to the Sweet 16 and the South Region Final on Tuesday against top-seeded Flagler.

The Flames had a look at a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win it but Michael McGuirk s shot hit just off the iron. Jayce Willingham gave Lee a 50-48 advantage with 2:26 left but UAH would regain the lead for good on a Max Shulman layup with 1:24 remaining. Lee had the ball down one 51-50 coming out of a timeout with 22 ticks left on the clock when Sam Orf made the play that sealed the game as he jumped the passing lane to come up with a crucial steal.

West Georgia completed the sweep of the No. 15 Lee men s basketball team with an 85-75 victory on Saturday afternoon in Walker Arena.  The Flames appeared to put Friday s tough one-point loss in the rear-view mirror as they scored the first 16 points of the game before the Wolves finally got on the board five minutes into the contest on a free throw. The tough-minded West Georgia club would regain its footing however and closed the gap to just a single point at halftime before shooting 55 percent in the second half while scoring 56 points.

Lee Men Hold On For 60-59 Win Over West Georgia Saturday, January 9, 2021 Quay Kennedy hit his final free throw with 1.3 seconds remaining and the Lee University Flames held on for a 60-59 win Saturday afternoon from The Coliseum on the campus of West Georgia. After a back-and-forth first half, the Flames trailed by as many as six with 18:28 to go in the game before a Kennedy basket gave Lee their first lead of the half. The teams traded baskets before the Flames stretched their lead to five with 3:49 left on a pair of Kennedy free-throws. West Georgia (1-5) then evened things at 59 with a Keshawn Heard 3-pointer as 25 seconds remained.

Lee Men Host Home Openers This Weekend Lee Women On the Road Thursday, December 31, 2020 Lee University men’s basketball will open its home season on Saturday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.) when the University of Montevallo visits for the weekend contests. Flame Coach Bubba Smith describes it best when he stated, “We are looking forward to finally playing at home, even though it may look a little different this season.  We are happy for our families to be able to see their kids play in a live setting. It has been a while.” (Last March 5 when Lee defeated Auburn Montgomery in the opening round of the GSC Tournament.) “I know our guys will be excited to be at home.  We just need to settle in early, compete defensively, and play together and stay unselfish.”
