Weber State s Jay Hill named Big Sky Coach of the Year for first time

OGDEN The breakthrough of Weber State football under head coach Jay Hill continues. For the first time in his seven seasons leading the Wildcats, Hill was named Big Sky Coach of the Year, it was announced Thursday after a vote of the league s coaches. Hill guided the undefeated Wildcats through a five-game spring campaign to their fourth consecutive conference title and first outright championship in program history with a 5-0 record. The 46-year-old coach is the first Weber State recipient of the Big Sky Coach of the Year since Ron McBride in 2008. In his first full-time collegiate coaching gig, Hill has turned around a Weber State program in every way. The Wildcats are 52-30 under his guidance, including a 37-10 record in the last four seasons that includes four FCS playoff appearances and a 26-3 mark in Big Sky play.

Entz, who has a 22-2 career record in his second year as a head coach, earned his second straight AFCA regional honor by leading North Dakota State to a 6-2 record and the program’s 11th straight NCAA playoff appearance. He and Weber State’s Jay Hill in Region 5 are the only repeat winners from 2019.

Weber State books fifth straight FCS playoff appearance, will host Southern Illinois

OGDEN Weber State is back in the playoffs. Now the truncated FCS football season gets real. The Wildcats, ranked No. 3 in the latest STATS Perform FCS top 25, will open the 2020 FCS playoffs yes, the playoffs for the truncated 2020 season that was moved to the spring due to the coronavirus pandemic in the first round April 24 at Stewart Stadium in Ogden against Southern Illinois (2 p.m. MDT, ESPN3). Weber State is making its fifth-straight appearance in the first round of the reduced 16-team tournament (down from the usual 24 teams). The Wildcats earned one of 10 automatic berths to the playoffs by virtue of a conference championship, but did not earn a top-four seed by the selection committee.
