CSA marks 50th year with awards, reports and elections

-Colorado Simmental Association Colorado Simmental Association held its 50th annual meeting in a virtual format. Award winners were recognized, and business completed in the milestone celebration, held on Zoom. Dr. Wade Shafer, American Simmental Association’s executive vice-president, and Terry Fankhauser, Colorado Cattlemen’s executive vice-president, both gave updates and fielded questions from members. The CSA membership re-elected Ron Mari of Holyoke to a three-year director term, and CSA’s officer team was retained. For 2021, they are: Jay Hill of Sterling, president; Mitchell Jergensen of Ramah, vice-president; and Susan Russell of Sugar City, secretary/treasurer. Russell, and Paul and Nia Hill of Nunn were elected as junior advisors. Rounding out the board are Willie Altenburg of Fort Collins, Mick Meiklejohn of Collbran and Jolynn Midcap of Wray.

Weber State s early signing class includes all-time prep receiver from Corner Canyon

But one incoming freshman may take the place of three wide receivers in a normal year. Corner Canyon wide receiver Noah Kjar, the state s career leader in receptions and three-time state champion who ranks second all-time in receiving yards for a season and career, was one of three incoming freshman signed by seventh-year coach Jay Hill on Wednesday. Kjar, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound wide out from Draper who is the son of Corner Canyon coach Eric Kjar, had 285 career receptions for 4,935 yards and 50 touchdowns in four seasons with the Chargers. He s the second-most prolific wide out in state history, according to the Utah High School Activities Association record book, and has the most yards and touchdowns of anyone not included Orem graduate Puka Nacua, who caught 260 passes for a state-record 5,226 yards and 58 touchdowns in four seasons before signing with Washington in 2018.

After being closed for nearly four years, the Cameron Street Bridge opened to traffic Monday afternoon. The two-lane, $10.5 million concrete bridge replaces the single-lane, wood-truss bridge which served the city from 1931 to 2005. The site has been used for a bridge across the Nechako River since 1916. “This is a historic moment,” Mayor Dan Rogers said. “It’s wonderful that we are here to open this and provide a critical link for industry and residents.” Approximately 40 people attended the official opening of the bridge at 10 a.m. on Monday. Traffic began flowing across the bridge shortly after noon. The bridge reopening will help the city’s industries become more competitive and energy-efficient, he said.
