GUWAHATI: A wild buffalo died when security personnel tried to tranquilise it in Biswanath district in the past 24 hours. The adult buffalo, which strayed from the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR), was killed at Kumoliya after it attacked four persons, leaving one dead and two injured.
Biswanath Wildlife Division DFO Mukut Chandra Das told TOI, “The buffalo, which appeared in the park’s Biswanath division, killed a villager, Jayanta Das (45), on Thursday morning. A mahout is also killed on Thursday by an elephant, which is now being tranquilised.”
Das’s death created public anger and sparked a protest with the locals torching a forest range office and Mahindra Bolero vehicle at the site. The animal attacked and killed another person named Sukur Ali on Friday morning.

Biswanath Charilai: Amid the Bhogali Bihu celebration, two people were killed and several others including a woman and a six-year-old child injured in a wild water buffalo attack in two villages of Biswanath, Assam.
Reportedly, Jayanta Das of Kali Matak village and Sukur Ali of Komalia village died after being attacked by the wild water buffalo.
Sukur Ali had died on the spot after the wild buffalo attack him on Friday morning while Jayanta Das was trampled to death by the same buffalo who strayed out from the sixth addition to Kaziranga National park on Thursday.

Biswanath Chariali: Within hours of accusations levelled against the Forest Department officials of Biswanath Chariali on killing the wild water buffalo on Friday, the forest department held a press conference and said that the forest officials killed the wild buffalo in self-defense.
Addressing the media, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Biswanath, Mukut Das said, On Friday a wild buffalo killed one person named Sukur Ali in Komalia village in Biswanath, Assam. And after the incident took place our officials along with police personnel reached the spot and tried to chase the buffalo towards the forest, meanwhile, it tried to attack them which forced our forest personnel to shoot, in order to save their lives.
