North Vernon man arrested for rape

Courtesy-JCSO FB page NORTH VERNON, Ind. – After a four-month investigation, the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) this week arrested Mark Liles, 23, of North Vernon, for felony rape. On October 9, JCSO was notified that a juvenile female had allegedly been the victim of an unwanted sexual encounter while at a residence in Sand Creek Township. During the investigation, it was determined that the suspect apparently picked up the female at her residence and took her to a remote cabin where he supposedly made unwanted sexual advances after being told to stop. Liles was taken into custody on Wednesday and is being held in the Jennings County Jail without bond.

Jennings County man arrested for child solicitation

Courtesy-JCSO FB page NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) was contacted last Sunday in reference to a report of a possible child solicitation case after a social media post was made by a “Predator Patrol” group. Wayne Denney, Jr., of Jennings County, allegedly posted sexual references to a child he believed was a 15-year-old girl. All possible evidence was turned over to JCSO. Once jurisdiction was determined, an investigation ensued. On Tuesday, after Jennings County detectives interviewed the suspect concerning the allegations, he was arrested and booked into Jennings County Jail on one count of child solicitation. He is being held without bond awaiting an initial court appearance.

Jennings County Sheriff honors reserve deputy

Courtesy-JCSO FB page NORTH VERNON, Ind. – At a Tuesday night Patrol Division meeting, Jennings County Sheriff Kenny Freeman handed out several awards. In particular, Reserve Lt. Steve Marsh was recognized for 42 years of service to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office. He has been a reserve deputy for all 42 years, donating countless hours to Jennings County. Marsh leads the Reserve Program and he also serves as a firearms instructor. Sheriff Freeman said, “Lt. Marsh has made each of us better throughout the years and has meant more to our deputies than we could ever measure. We are truly thankful for his service.”

Courtesy of JCSO NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office served an outstanding warrant to Jennifer Hardesty, 40, of Paris Crossing, at her house on Tuesday. Deputies found the woman and her 40-year-old husband Wilbur Hardesty at the residence. During a search of the home, law enforcement allegedly located approximately 19 grams of methamphetamine, a controlled substance, marijuana, and paraphernalia. Both were arrested without incident and transported to the Jennings County Jail. Wilbur Hardesty is facing charges of possession of meth, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. Jennifer Hardesty was booked for possession of meth, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and the warrant.
