Eugene Forum on Police Protocol Shows Community Support for Change

KLCC s Jen Wright reports on the Eugene City Council Public Forum.   The proposals come from the Ad Hoc Committee on Police Policy report addressing use of force, oversight, and other policies.  Thirty-two community members spoke. Most asked the council to immediately put all the proposed changes into action. Ad Hoc Committee member Marty Wilder encouraged urgency. “Please don’t wait for bad things to happen to change bad policy,” Wilder said. “As long as there’s a possibility for police to abuse their power, justify prejudice or get away with criminal behavior, then it needs to change.” Several people gave personal testimonies of their negative interactions with Eugene police. Others recommended diverting funding to non-police organizations like CAHOOTS, and to commit to long-term change.

Dockside Restaurant Raises Money For Grass River Natural Area

9 & 10 News May 4, 2021 The Dockside Restaurant in Torch Lake celebrated their spring fling fundraiser Monday, raising money for the Grass River Natural Area. Half of all food and drink proceeds went to GRNA programs, which include summer camps along with paddling and wildlife activities. Grass River says they’ve held this event for more than 20 years, and even with limited capacity and extra take-out orders, they’re still impressed by the response from the community. “We are just so thankful for all the folks that come out and help support us through programs, through events like this, the Dockside, the folks who are coming out and just putting money in the jar,” said Jenn Wright, Executive Director of Grass River Natural Area. “All of those funds are very, very appreciated and very well used.”

Local Bars and Restaurants React to Eased Restrictions from Gov Walz

Fox21Online February 12, 2021 DULUTH, Minn.– Local bars and restaurants in the Northland say Governor Walz’s announcement scaling back restrictions is good news. It was just about a month ago when Minnesota bars and restaurants were able to let no more than 150 people inside. Now, they say not only is the additional hundred allowed in helpful but so is the extra hour they can be open for business. At 7 West Taphouse along Maple Grove Road in Duluth, restaurant staff was excited to welcome customers inside their dining room once again, especially with the extreme cold making their outdoor seating unusable.
