Created: February 12, 2021 10:47 AM ROCHESTER,N.Y.(WHEC) Two Rochester-area Democratic lawmakers have joined calls from the state GOP to investigate Governor Andrew Cuomo s administration after a report released Thursday night by the New York Post said the governor s top aide admitted to hiding nursing home data.  Freshman Senators Samra Brouk and Jeremy Cooney each released statements Friday, just a day after GOP members like Senator Rob Ortt began making the push. Cooney said the state must hold transparent hearings into the matter, while Brouk said Cuomo s emergency powers are no longer needed and should be re-evaluated. The two senators joined 12 other Democratic senators in making the calls.

New York State’s unemployment website was constantly crashing, the phone lines were crushed and those in need were made to wait weeks if not months for the benefits they were entitled to.  

Cuomo: Local governments can expand vaccine eligibility amid supply increase

(WHEC) Local governments can choose to expand COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to taxi and ride-share drivers, restaurant workers, and those in developmentally disabled facilities in light of an increase in supply from the federal government, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday. The governor made the announcement during his COVID-19 briefing Tuesday, just hours after he said governors joined a call with White House officials. President Joe Biden’s administration will be increasing the supply of vaccines going to states by 5% over the next three weeks on top of the 16% increase the administration previously announced, Cuomo said. Federal allocations to pharmacies, meanwhile, will increase by around 10%, which is about 30,000 doses, he said.

Mayor and chief disappointed after police use of irritant on child

(WHEC)  During a press conference Sunday on an incident where an RPD officer used pepper spray on a nine-year-old girl, Mayor Lovely Warren expressed her disappointment with the video and said that we need to do more to support children and families that are going through mental health crises. This is not something that any of us should want to justify, can justify, this is something we have to change. It s not an option. We must change how we do business, how we treat people. We have to understand, that they at the very core are human beings and we must treat each other as we want to be treated, as we want our loved ones to be treated,  said Warren.
