GOLDSTEIN: Trudeau Liberals hold record for failing to deliver a budget

Article content Try refreshing your browser, or The current Trudeau government, elected on October 21, 2019, hasn’t delivered a budget for 504 days and counting. That’s longer than the 483-day span between the March 2, 1943 and June 27, 1944 budgets of the Liberal government of William Lyon Mackenzie King during the Second World War. When the Trudeau Liberals introduced their last budget on March 19, 2019, Bill Morneau was finance minister, the deficit was estimated at $19.8 billion, debt at $685.5 billion and the debt-to-GDP ratio (a good number is 27%), 30.7%. Today, without bringing down a budget, the Liberals have permanently changed Canada’s finances because of pandemic spending, with the deficit estimated at $381.6 billion, debt at over $1 trillion, and the debt-to-GDP ratio, 50.7%.
