Fourteen films projects to shoot in Montana after being awarded $500,000 in grants

MONTANA - The Montana Film Office awarded a total of $500,000 in grants to 14 films that will be shot on location across the state. The office estimated these projects will spend $72 million in Montana while filming.Â The projects cover a wide range of themes such as, a documentary about issues tribal women face, a feature film about a Montana MMA fighter and an educational series for children featuring music and animation.Â They ll be shot all throughout the state, from Hamilton and Missoula to different parts of eastern Montana.Â These projects don t just create jobs in Montana s growing film industry, but boosts the economy beyond that, Allison Whitmer, Montana film commissioner, said.Â

gneese@mininggazette.com HOUGHTON The Houghton Planning Commission subcommittee for revising the city’s master plan held its first meeting Tuesday night, appointing its leaders and determining its structure. The other committee, which will discuss development on the Lakeshore Drive parking deck site and the history of the Veridea Group proposal, will meet 5:30 p.m. March 16. Bill Leder, vice chair of the Planning Commission, was named as chair. Michelle Jarvie-Eggart was named as vice chair, and Kristine Bradof as secretary. After its next meeting on March 29, the committee will hold future meetings on the first and third Monday of each month at 1 p.m.

Houghton Council holds ethics discussion over Cole proposal | News, Sports, Jobs

gneese@mininggazette.com HOUGHTON The Houghton City Council discussed an ethical issue Wednesday regarding a proposal Councilor Virginia Cole had selectively circulated to two other council members that prompted a call during public comment for Cole to resign. The discussion centered on actions by Cole that came up during the Jan. 13 meeting, a week after the council learned of the Veridea Group’s withdrawal from negotiations for development of the big parking deck property on Lakeshore Drive. The Council voted to have the Planning Commission make recommendations on a course forward for development of the downtown and the big parking deck area. The vote was 6-1, with Cole casting the sole dissenting vote.
