I would like to thank Mike Delahant for his wonderful columns on Robert Louis Stevenson. As a child here in Saranac Lake, my mother would read the stories and poems of RLS to my sister and me. She took us on many walks and occasionally would walk us over to his cottage. I was always fascinated by him. I read his poems and stories to my son. His favorite was, and still is, “The Land of Counterpane,” the perfect “story” for a little boy. He writes his own poems now. I’m learning so much more about RLS than I ever knew. What an interesting man. I love his dreams and am happy he was able to live some of those dreams traveling to the South Seas. I would love to have known him.

To the editor: President Trump could stop any potential violence right now. He could stand up and say, “I lied! I didn’t want to admit defeat. It was hard for me.” After watching his brief remarks this morning (Tuesday) on the White House lawn, it is profoundly obvious that he is not going to do that. He insists his remarks last week were “totally appropriate.” NOT! Unfortunately, he is neither noble nor sane. He is a dangerous man. His supporters are chattering on media sites that they will put bullets into Democrats. His enablers in Congress need to stop making excuses for him. He doesn’t learn lessons. His college professors said he was “unteachable.”

Stefanik and her staff were safe, she said in an email at 3:10 p.m. She also condemned the mob’s actions.
“Americans have a Constitutional right to protest & freedom of speech,” she wrote, “but violence in any form is absolutely unacceptable & anti-American. We pray that all of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, their staff, & all Americans remain safe.
