Students will showcase social justice-focused artwork throughout Ypsilanti Updated Mar 04, 2021; Facebook Share YPSILANTI, MI Fifty-eight student-created pieces of artwork depicting diversity, equity and justice will be displayed throughout Ypsilanti soon. The art pieces, created by Ypsilanti Community Schools students, were supposed to be part of an exhibition featured at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington D.C. in May 2020, art teacher Kathy Fisk said. When that display didn’t happen, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the artwork was redesigned as streetscape banners being installed throughout the city. The Ypsilanti City Council unanimously approved the plan on Tuesday, March 2, and the goal is to have the artwork installed by mid-March to celebrate National Youth Arts Month, officials said. YCS arts education staff will work with the Department of Public Services to make arrangements for installation.

I know a lot of people are hoping things will get better in 2021, President Biden is hoping we can turn the corner and get back to some normalcy by Christmas. Vaccines are slowly being distributed, and we’re ready for spring. Outside is the safest place to be during a pandemic, and the city of Ann Arbor is moving forward with a festival. They are planning the ninth annual FoolMoon festival in Kerrytown.
