49ers rookie Trey Sermon shares first impression of Kyle Shanahan, talks Trey Lance, Bobby Turner

3 hrs ago New San Francisco 49ers running back Trey Sermon was already familiar with at least one rookie teammate quarterback Trey Lance. The two trained together, leading to the draft, and Sermon learned quickly how hard of a worker Lance is. When I got that call (from the 49ers), I was excited, Sermon shared with reporters on Friday. I was training with this guy back in Florida, and now we re going to be on the same team. It was definitely a good feeling.
Today s practice was the only one of this minicamp to which the media will have access. The remaining two sessions over the next two days are closed to reporters. While reporters probably had to use binoculars to see the new 49ers quarterback due to COVID protocols, the rookie did leave some positive impressions. Lance was the only quarterback in Friday s session, reported Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group, and he completed his first 12 passes in 7-on-7 action, most of which came on short throws, but he did nail a 15-yard dart over the middle in early action.

Matt Entz, the college head coach of Trey Lance, joined KNBR on Wednesday to discuss his former quarterback, who was drafted No. 3 overall two weeks ago by the San Francisco 49ers. The North Dakota State coach is excited to see what his former player can do at the pro level and feels the quarterback landed in the perfect spot.
Entz sees 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan s offense as the perfect fit for the 21-year-old rookie. I m excited for him. I think it s a great match, Entz told Mark Willard. Just from my conversations with Coach Shanahan, I think there s some things that he wants to expand on, being able to utilize the quarterback as another option. And in the NFL, you can t afford to get your quarterback injured, but it can be part of the complementary phase to the run game, and things of that nature.
