Keeping Garoppolo, a savvy veteran who is already well-versed in head coach Kyle Shanahan s offense, might seem like a no-brainer from a personnel perspective. After all, the 49ers are built to win now. Are the hopes of a championship season something you want to throw on the shoulders of a rookie quarterback?

“If you saw my deleted draft folder, then you’d see some really, really good tweets,” York said on 49ers Talk. York said there was no master plan other than to provide some entertainment and, perhaps, even add to the drama after the first two picks of the draft went as expected.
After an eventful lead up to the 2021 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers unveiled the best-kept secret in the league when they selected North Dakota State QB Trey Lance third overall.
In the days leading up to the draft, speculation was rampant that the Niners were going to go with Alabama’s Mac Jones, but general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan went with the guy they feel can lead the organization to a championship in the future.
Lance only played one full season at the FCS level and turns 21 on Sunday. He has the physical tool to be a special talent at the pro level but some believe it will be best for Lance to sit for a season and learn behind veteran Jimmy Garoppolo.
