The 67th Montana Legislature adjourned on Thursday, April 29, following a week filled with policies brought back from the dead and capped by a failed high-stakes gamble by conservative Republicans to rewrite a major portion of the recreational marijuana plan passed just days earlier.

BOZEMAN â The 2021 legislative session has ended, but thereâs still a lot of questions as far as public health decisions.
âWeâre trying to understand the implications of some of the legislation coming out of Helena, said Gallatin County Health Officer Matt Kelley. I will say in some cases Iâm confused. Weâre really feeling kind of whip-sawed by some of this.â

Gianforte Signs Bill Pushing Back on Fed Gun Control
The much anticipated House Bill 258 pushing back on any new federal gun bans or gun control laws has officially been signed into law. Montana Governor Greg Gianforte (R-MT) signed the measure Friday morning, and is already getting national attention.
HB 258, sponsored by Rep. Jedediah Hinkle (R-Belgrade) is the bill that would basically authorize the State of Montana, and law enforcement officers in the state, to ignore any new gun control laws on the books.
Gary Marbut with the Montana Shootings Sports Assocation hailed the passage of HB 258, noting that it has an immediate effective date so it is now law in Montana.
