Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading SECURITY STAFF at the Royal Berkshire Hospital are entering a second wave of strikes over what they believe is unfair pay. 23 security guards at the hospital will be striking from 7am on Monday, January 4, and end at 7pm on Friday, February 12. The strikes are aiming to raise the lowly level of pay that their employers, Kingdom Services Group, have paid through the Coronavirus crisis, as well as an improvement of working conditions. Unite regional officer Jesika Parmar said: “Our members will continue their ‘David and Goliath’ struggle in the new year with strike action over 20 days in January and February.

French transport workers’ strike in Paris
French transport workers on the Paris public transport network held a one-day strike Thursday. The Unsa, CGT, SAT, Solidaires and SUD union members are protesting plans to privatise the transport network by 2024, which will lead to attacks on jobs and conditions.
Strike by London Heathrow airport workers
Airport workers including baggage handlers, engineers, firefighters and other operatives at Heathrow Airport Ltd (HAL) in London held a 24-hour strike Monday, and a further two-day strike from Thursday. They held a one-day strike on November 30. On Monday, the striking workers held a car rally at Heathrow to promote their protest.

They are seeking a pay rise to put them broadly in line with NHS rates – they propose £12 an hour for security guards and £13 for supervisors, up from their current hourly rates of £8.89 and £9.89.
The 21, who also want sick pay and payment for working unsocial hours, walked out on Monday and will return to work on Friday evening.
Unite regional officer Jesika Parmar said: “The last few days of strike action have been very successful with a great deal of support from the public and Reading local councillors.
