Investigation underway into cyber attack against LINE users in Taiwan

Taipei, July 28 (CNA) An investigation has been launched by law- enforcement authorities into a cyber attack targeting certain users of the popular mobile messaging app LINE in Taiwan, LINE Co. said Wednesday.
LINE confirmed a report that the accounts of some LINE users in Taiwan had been hacked, but said in a statement that as soon as it detected abnormalities, it took the necessary measures to protect its users and reported the case to law-enforcement authorities.
It provided no other details, other than to say that data and information security and user privacy are its top priorities and to pledge that it will take the necessary measures to deal with the incident.

Taipei, April 27 (CNA) LINE Corp., a Japanese supplier of mobile messaging and communication services, said Tuesday it has moved into a seven-story building in Taipei s Neihu District, its biggest office outside its home country.
An inauguration ceremony will be held May 5 for the office, which has a total floor area of 9,917 square meters, the company said in a press release.
The new office is equipped with facial recognition technology, and it has very comfortable work areas for its staff, the company said, adding that it is hoping to attract more talent.

Taipei, Jan. 31 (CNA) Taiwan-based manufacturing giant Hon Hai Precision Industry on Sunday released its first generation electric vehicle developer tool as part of the company s ongoing venture into the development of electric cars.
The EV developer tool, called EVkit, made public online Sunday, announced Jack Cheng (鄭顯聰), chief executive officer of Hon Hai-initiated MIH Open Platform Alliance.
It will provide Autonomous driving developers an easily accessible interface to control the dynamics of the platform and assist with the system design and validation to vastly reduce the cost of development, he said in an open letter to alliance members.

Taoyuan, Jan. 25 (CNA) Extracurricular winter sessions at all schools in Taoyuan have been canceled with immediate effect, as the city battles a community cluster of COVID-19 cases that has now reached 15, Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦) said Monday.
School facilities will not be available for winter camps or any other activities such as volunteer group or student club meetings, Cheng said, after the city on Sunday recorded two more cases in the COVID-19 cluster that started at Taoyuan General Hospital.
Following the end of the fall semester last week, elementary and junior high schools were scheduled to start supplementary winter classes Monday, but late Sunday the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said that some 5,000 people would have to go into home quarantine, as part of its control efforts.
