Pennsylvania man dies in skiing accident in Adirondacks, police say

He was taken to Champlain Valley Physician s Hospital in Plattsburgh, where an autopsy determined he died of a skull and cervical fracture, according to Lake Placid News. The incident comes about a year after 21-year-old Nicholas Koch, a native of Danville, Pennsylvania, died in a similar skiing crash at Whiteface Mountain.

B. Tanner Kahlau, 22, of Mountain Top, died on Jan. 12, according to his obituary. He died five days before his 23rd birthday while skiing at Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in Lake Placid, N.Y., his obituary says. Police said he died at the scene after hitting a tree, WKTV.com reported. An all-around athlete, Kahlau played football and lacrosse for Crestwood High School, graduating in 2016. US College Hockey Online reports he also played junior hockey with the New Jersey Rockets before enrolling at Fredonia in 2018.

SUNY student dies at in ski accident Whiteface Mountain

Jan 14, 2021 The New York State troopers are investigating a fatal ski accident at Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks this week. According to police in Ray Brook, Bernhard Tanner Kahlau, 22,  lost control and hit a tree while he was skiing on Tuesday. Kahlau was from Mountain Top, Pennsylvania and played hockey at SUNY Fredonia in western New York. We are saddened by the loss of our teammate, Tanner, Fredonia State Head Coach  Jeff Meredith said. The impact he left on our program, coaches, and teammates will forever be remembered.   To say Tanner was a great teammate is not doing him justice, Meredith said. He was a teammate that everyone loved. His kind demeanor, easy way, and welcoming smile made him a leader, confidant, and friend to all.
