2021 WAC Expansion Announcement
SALT LAKE CITY As WAC commissioner Jeff Hurd walked away from a video conference call Thursday after his league had announced an expansion to 13 teams and reinstating football, he pumped his fist and with the fervor only captured on a hot mic shouted, I think we hit a home run today.
For the state of Utah, he certainly did.
The presence of the Beehive State was felt when the Western Athletic Conference was founded 58 years ago as a six-team league comprising BYU, Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, New Mexico and Wyoming.
Nearly six decades later and around 30 membership changes those roots in the Beehive State run deeper than ever.
Expansion could bring football back to WAC this fall in FCS

HOUSTON (AP) Football is returning in the Western Athletic Conference, this time at the Championship Subdivision level.
The league announced this week it would add four schools from the Southland Conference and one from the Big Sky to bring its membership to 13.
The five new members will join Dixie State and Tarleton State in a WAC football League. The WAC continues to seek an eighth football member that would bring league membership to 14 schools, but no timetable for that is set.
The new members are Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin from the Southland and Southern Utah from the Big Sky.
Here comes the WAC.
The league made it official Thursday: Southern Utah, Abilene Christian, Lamar, Stephen F Austin and Sam Houston State will join the conference as it resurrects football which ended in 2012 and strengthens its depth in hoops.
The Texas four are likely to join the WAC this summer while Southern Utah will join prior to the 2022-23 season.
Chicago State won’t be a part of the new-look WAC according to a school press release, but that isn’t a bad thing as the lowly Cougars haven’t broken the 10-win mark since winning 13 in 2013-14 its first season in the WAC.
But for many, the storm was a welcome change from the stuck-at-home drudgery of life in the coronavirus pandemic, giving kids all over the chance to play in a winter wonderland, with some even getting snow days despite many schools having the capability for remote learning.
“Oh, the weather’s awesome,” said Charlestown resident Sandra Wishansky. “It’s New England, it’s wicked awesome.” A massive snowstorm dumped more than a foot of snow on much of Massachusetts, leaving adults to dig out and kids to play in a winter wonderland.
Boston s snow emergency, declared Wednesday night ahead of the storm s arrival, is due to be lifted at 7 a.m. Friday, ending the city s parking ban on snow routes. Mayor Marty Walsh said city residents had great compliance with the ban.

A father and son want to open market-style food huts for hundreds of truckers expected to be sent to a lorry park if Brexit causes disruption.
Caterers Vic and Sam Bussey provided healthy buffet food from a marquee to thousands of lorry drivers stuck at Manston at Christmas.

They also delivered hot food to those queuing and in their vehicles.
Roping in help from relatives and Thanet pub empire Thorley Taverns, which opened its kitchen to make vats of soup, Vic and Sam managed to feed around 2,000 hungry drivers, in near freezing conditions.
